Spam Email Attachment / Email Virus
Reported July 30, 2008
A nationwide virus has made its way to our local area. A sample of the email message is below. If you receive this email you will notice that there is also a .zip file attached. Do not open the attachment because it contains a very dangerous virus. As a rule of thumb, you should never open a .zip file attachment unless you are expecting one to be sent to you or you contact the sender to verify the validity first. See the sample message below:
It has been verified that this virus DOES contain a "key logger". A key logger is a Trojan application that records your every key stroke and sends them out to a server on the Internet. A cyber criminal collects that information (such us User IDs, passwords, credit card numbers, etc.) and uses it for identity theft. If you have received this message and you did click on the attachment, you should not use any homebanking services, log into any sites requiring a password, or enter your credit card number online until you have had your computer checked by a professional service center to insure that your information has not been compromised.
