Commonwealth Credit Union has been notified that the database of TJX Companies was the recent victim of an unauthorized computer hack. To date, there have been upwards of 20 million card numbers identified between U.S., Puerto Rico and Canada cardholders. This includes approximately 4,000 Commonwealth Credit Union active card numbers.
TJX is the parent company of a number of local businesses, including T.J. Maxx, HomeGoods, and Marshalls. A.J. Wright stores located in other areas of the U.S. and Puerto Rico and Winners and HomeSense stores in Canada were also victims.
The fraud is still being investigated by the Secret Service and maybe ongoing for some time. Commonwealth Credit Union is taking steps to block and reissue Global Cards and credit cards to our members and will communicate with them as we move forward through this process. Our credit card holders will be contacted by phone so that we can work out arrangements to get new cards into their hands as quickly and with as little disruption as possible.
